dys·lexia[dɪsˈlɛksɪə]noun
Dyslexia affects 10% of the population - that means that 3 in every class of 30 has dyslexia. It is a lifelong neurological difference in the make up of the brain which affects multiple facets and all those with dyslexia are unique in regard to their strengths and difficulties.
Dyslexia affects the ability to make links between what is heard (phonological sounds) with the written symbols (letters) meaning that reading is difficult. It can also impact the ability to concentrate, remember and sequence information, organise workload, hamper letter formation and impact handwriting speed and speed of processing.
Over time these challenges, if not fully addressed and catered for, may have a detrimental impact on an individual. This could develop into a barrier to learning preventing learners from achieving their potential. This could limit life opportunities and negatively affect self esteem.
Being neurodiverse does not mean an individual cannot succeed!
We can offer support to those with dyslexia or literacy difficulties which will enable them to access the curriculum and their studies with a range of strategies and tools which will promote independence and confidence.
